Hannelore Baron: Fragments Shored Against Ruins
Ford Graphics Gallery
Sponsored by JP Morgan Chase

This exhibition, on loan from the Art Museum of the University of Memphis, will present 60 works of art by Hannelore Baron (1926-1987). Born in Dillingen Germany, Hannelore Baron immigrated with her family to the United States when she was 15. Exposed to the ravages of the Nazi regime, and witnessing the savage beating of her father on Kristallnacht in 1938, Baron’s art reflects her response to psychological and physical peril. Her work, comprised of small to medium sized hinged boxes and box assemblages, includes scraps of wood, fabric, and found metal objects—cast off materials that Baron recombines into works that are compelling meditations on history and the human condition.
